Here’s what fresh fruit can do for your working day

We all know that it is important to eat enough fruit. But how can your favourite healthy snack provide an energy boost and a good mood? Here we show how specific characteristics of different fruits can help you during a strenuous day at the office. Read about six healthy benefits of fresh fruit here:

#1 Stress? Eat a banana

Do you find yourself reaching for that jar of biscuits or a chocolate bar more often during stressful periods? Why not try something healthy and stress-reducing for once? Eat a banana! Bananas contain, among other things, vitamin B6, which supports nervous system function. This makes you perform better. Bananas are also rich in potassium, a mineral that balances your blood pressure and reduces stress. So are you suffering from mounting (work) pressure? Breathe in, breathe out… and peel a banana!

#2 Get an energy boost from grapes

Do you feel a four-hour dip coming on? Then you could definitely use some energy! A handful of grapes can help. This is because these natural energy bombs with ‘good sugars’ are high in dietary fibres and antioxidants, providing a healthy energy boost. The dietary fibre also allows the sugar to be broken down in your body. ‘Bad’ sugars’, such as those found in soft drinks or sweets, do not contain these dietary fibres. Your body has more trouble breaking down the sugar, so you do get a short energy spike, but get tired faster. In short: for that (healthy) energy boost, grab a bunch of grapes. In our range, you will find the white and red varieties. Yum!

#3 An apple for the thirst

Ever suffer from headaches or dizziness? That could indicate fluid deficiency. Fatigue and a bad mood are also symptoms of not enough fluid in your body. The solution? Eat an apple! An apple (100 grams) easily contains 84.3 grams of water and helps maintain your fluid balance. Sufficient fluid in your body also keeps your brain working quickly and optimally. A bottle of water and an apple will boost your productivity.

#4 Tired – tangerines!

Vitamin C contributes to a healthy immune system. Citrus fruits in particular, such as oranges and tangerines, contain this vitamin and thus also help you fight fatigue. This is because vitamin C ensures that iron can be absorbed into your body, and iron ensures that sufficient oxygen can flow through your blood. The more oxygen in your blood, the less tired you feel!

#5 Master those ‘tasty cravings’: eat a pear

Did you know that a pear can reduce ‘cravings’ on occasion? This is because the healthy carbohydrates in a pear are high in fibre; your body therefore has to work harder to absorb these carbohydrates as energy and can also benefit from them for longer. In addition, the amount of glucose and fructose in a pear also provide extra energy. Result: less ‘hungry’ and a big energy boost. So super cool, a pear!

#6 Plums are good for your mood

Cranky? A plum works wonders. This piece of fruit contains the substance serotonin; an important neurotransmitter that, among other things, ensures a good mood and a better memory. Ingredients you need to get through your (long) day at the office. So don’t become a (sour) plum and grab a plum once in a while. You can find them in our baskets in the spring and summer months.
