More on our ‘Fruit Tree Planting Campaign’
For every fruit basket we deliver, we plant 1 fruit tree in Malawi, Africa – in partnership with Ripple Africa.
Every 10 minutes, a piece of land the size of a football field is cut down. Through our campaign, we help reduce the effects of global warming and deforestation and create jobs for local people. Every 3 months, we send all our clients an update to keep everyone informed of the number of trees – planted by their team!

Why are the trees being cut down?
- For cooking: only 4% of Malawi’s population has access to electricity. A family consumes an average of 120 bromes a year for firewood.
- Shifting cultivation: soil is depleted and trees are cut down to grow other crops.
- Wood is used for construction
More on the campaign we are running
- Location: Malawi, Africa
- Type of trees: Guava and Papaya trees. These grow quickly and offer fruit in abundance.
- In collaboration with: we work with our partner Ripple Africa, an organisation working in Africa.
- Who and how many: trees are grown by Malawian families (10,000 families grow 35 trees each). Farmers, schools and community clubs grow about 1,000 to 5,000 seedlings each.
- How: Growers are provided with seedlings and, in some cases, other equipment. Training is given and there is constant monitoring throughout the year to ensure that as many seedlings as possible are ready to be planted in the rainy season. The seedlings are then planted out in orchards, forest plots and around households.
- Who benefits: poor Malawian families benefit from the consumption and yields of the fruit.
